Det er ihvertfald en tung omgang at bruge find på den måde, og der
er ikke en option til at kvæle fejl-meddelelser (andet end det, du
skriver om at omdirigere til /dev/null)

Men hvorfor bruger du ikke root kontoen?

Eller som alm.bruger: Hvorfor bruger du ikke 

 $ locate -i '*xml' ?

 # Husk singlequotes.

Altså undskyldningen med at locate ikke er up-to-date holder ikke,
for så kan du jo bare køre den opdatering - den bruger også find og
tager ikke ret lang tid, ikke mere tid end den find, som du prøver
at køre.
