[Job] Sys-admin



System Administrator

KU, Department of Animal and Veterinary Basic Sciences, Division of Genetics and Bioinformatics wishes to appoint a system administrator from January 1st. 2008 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a full time position with an 37 hour working week. The position is permanent.

Job description:
The work includes administration and maintenance of a small number of servers and a linux cluster as well as administration of biological (sequence) databases. The linux cluster consists of a number of nodes and a number of servers with dedicated function. We also run windows MSSQL servers that communicate with the linux cluster. The linux cluster is further operated in relation to supercomputers (through Danish Centre for Scientific Computing) at the Technical University of Denmark and the Southern University of Denmark. Maintenance of biological (sequence) databases will initially address existing infra structure of in house data as well as publicly available databases. This infrastructure is to be extended. In the long run it is also anticipated that the system administrator can contribute actively to the development of novel biological databases as well as novel computational tools, which will be a more implicit part of the research.


Qualifications:
Emphasis is given to:

Great experience with the linux (unix) operating system.
Solid experience in ”Script writing”, in languages such as perl, shell og awk.
Experience with C and/or C++.
Experience with SQL (ideally MySQL and MSSQL).
Knowledge about the queue system PBS/Torque.
Knowledge about installation of windows machine.
A computer science / IT related education.


The applicant should be willing to be a part of an environment in which students, PhD students and other scientific staff needs to be assisted. Emphasis is also given to the ability to communicate positively to the people in the group. The work will be a part of an international environment. As far as the primary tasks may permit the system administrator also will have to assist all employees at the department with IT tasks.

Terms of employment:
Employment and remuneration will be according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
